Antique Pair of Bell and Co. Chinoiserie Pitchers – Scotland

This listing is for a pair of mid-19th century Scottish polychrome pitchers made by the J & M P Bell & Co Ltd who were located in Glasgow. The pair are decorated with flowers, fruit and Chinoiserie decoration.

Bell’s Pottery was established by the Bell brothers in 1841, beside the Forth and Clyde Canal in Glasgow. They made transfer-printed white earthenware but soon expanded into china and Parian ware. Bell’s produced a vast range of transfer-printed china, which became extremely popular with middle-class families from the West of Scotland.

These pitchers are decorated in wonderful rich colours with a gentle lustre finish, and it’s very unusual to find two of these pitchers together.

• Very good condition. There is some crazing, light discolouration in spots and a small chip to one base, but otherwise, these two are in super condition for their age. – please see photos
