Description
This is a quality French porcelain inkwell, bronzed and mounted, featuring Chinoiserie floral enamel-painted designs on a black ground. The piece is accented by a pair of gilt shell-form handles and intricate ormolu decoration around the base and top. The porcelain body is hand-painted with Chinese floral motifs, showcasing a distinct style popular in the late 19th century.
Maker and Decoration:
The inkwell was made by Charles Pillivuyt and may have been decorated by Samson of Paris during the late 19th century. The bottom is signed with the mark of Charles Pillivuyt & Co., France, along with what appears to be an Edme Samson scroll mark.
Features:
The top of the inkwell comprises five compartments: one raised section for a small candle, one for a quill pen, one for sealing wax, one for a seal, and another compartment with a hinged domed cover that reveals the original removable glass inkwell, which still contains remnants of blue ink.

Condition:
