Antique Gurneys & Ware Hamilton Advertising Porcelain Scale

Description

We have for sale an antique porcelain hanging scale plate with “Gurney’s & Ware, Hamilton” on a faux white and grey marble ground held in an iron frame. This portion of the scale would be used with a trade scale.

Charles and Edward Gurney arrived in Hamilton, Ontario, from Utica New York, in 1842 and became 2 of 3 partners in the Gurney and Carpenter Iron Foundry. Elijah Ware and Edwin Dalley started a commercial scale company in 1856 and in 1885 Dalley sold his share to the Gurney brothers. The company was renamed the Gurney Scale Company (G.S.C.)

• Most likely made around 1890-1900
• Made in Hamilton Ontario
• Very good condition – No chips or cracks to the porcelain. The two of the nuts on the base of the iron frame look to be replacements. – Please see photos.

Dimensions:

• Porcelain base about 12.25 inches square
• Iron frame about 15.00 inches tall
